So the Smash Effect ruleset has reached a stage where it is relatively playable on the tabletop, but needs input from experienced gaming groups to refine and make the experience more playable and more exciting!

At this stage, only the basic combat rules and equipment lists have been included in the Alpha ruleset, allowing us to concentrate on having a solid, playable game. Factions, alien equipment, scenarios and other content are all in the works, but we want to make sure we're building on a strong foundation.

If you're interested in giving the Smash Effect rules a go, simply follow the Downloads tab on this site and download both the Smash Effect Rules current version and the Putting A Team Together documents (both in .pdf format).

Since missions are not yet in the rules, simply throw some models down on a 3x3 or 4x4 board, preferably dense with 28mm scale terrain and fight to the death!

The Putting A Team Together rules have been rewritten  and refined in a big way, capturing the pick and choose system the game was always intended to have. No more worrying about points, choose 5 guys and rumble! The core rules have been updated to suit, Psychic powers are, thankfully, far less complicated and much more fun!

Core Rules Update 1.5

The new rules, Putting a Team Together, Aliens, new LOS and Cover rules and Alien Trait system have all been combined into the new Smash Effect 1.5 document, ready on our Downloads page. This is a text only document, easy to read and printer ready. (We'll have a pretty version up later, I promise.) Drop us a line and tell me what you think of the combined package, ready for playtesting! *Phew! Been a long ride to get here, but it's been worth it! 

Core Rules Update 2.0

A new year brings a new game! Revamped once more, the new core rules are faster, easier and far more deadly! The focus was to capture a truer reflection of a first person shooter, and I think it's done so. The new grenade rules are my favourite!

Classes and corporations have been put aside for now, but they are certainly coming back. For the time being, give the core rules a go with combinations of Unit Types, weapons and grenades.
